REFLECTIONS FROM ANOTHER LIFE: STELLA WAITZKIN

Selected works by celebrated Chelsea Hotel resident artist’s mixed media sculptural objects and drawings. Initially an abstract expressionist, Waitzkin studied painting with Hans Hoffman and life drawing with Willem De Kooning. Expanding thereafter to sculptural works, she discovered her signature medium, polyester resin. After the 60’s, her primary subject was the book ~ casting old, leather bound books as single objects or entire libraries. Many feature other cast objects inserted: fruit, birds, human faces, fish and historical references.
